Thanks for stopping by to check out my work!

My name is Marcy. As much as I am a lover of photography, I am a lover of light, color, and human faces. My journey with photography began in high school with a sophomore-year printing class and my dad’s Nikon film camera. The printing class was a pre-requisite for a photography course and therefore parlayed into two more years of photography in high school. That class was a combination of social hour, media exploration (we went on a “field trip” to see Titanic in the theatre), and both film and digital photography that has stuck with me into my adult life. Though I never took to the dark room, I was interested with the basic techniques of photography and even more fascinated with what could be done on the computer in post-processing. That class ultimately spearheaded my career in computer software engineering while I fuel my creative side with fashion, design, and photography.

My early photos focused mainly on still-life, shadows, and aging buildings (I never hesitated to “explore” old buildings near my hometown of Blacksburg, VA). After I had my first daughter I hired an incredible family photographer who ended up being a mentor to me. When she moved away, she taught me some basics on shooting portraits in manual mode. After that I made it my mission to capture my own children and learn more about portrait photography in general. Ultimately, friends and family appreciated my work as well and Storytaker Photography was born.

I am a Virginia native and absolutely love everything Virginia has to offer. I often waver between favoring the mountains over the ocean and vice versa (I can love both equally, right?) I have two incredibly sweet, strong, and curious girls who amaze me daily. They changed my entire outlook on life and remind me every day that life is about the little moments. I love movies, music, nature, my friends and family, food, fashion, and traveling near and far.

As you can see from my photos, I capture the candid, unscripted moments. My goal is to capture your story. Each session is unique, fun, and designed for you. I work hard to make sure your family is comfortable and relaxed. I also love to style sessions, and offer assistance in this area if desired.
